Our clients and resource managers speak highly of Mark, who has been with AWX since 2008. He has a great attitude towards work and doesn’t mind a challenge.
A great worker and a keen surfer, Mark’s background is in construction where he’s done labouring and earth works for a railway project, road building and pipe laying. Mark’s also worked in events at a local university organising conferences and graduations.
Here’s a quick Q & A with Mark Tomkinson (MT).
AWX: Do you remember your first job with AWX?
MT: Definitely – it was road building for Varsity Lakes housing estate. Also did some pipe laying for rain water and sewerage for the area.
AWX: What do you enjoy most about working with AWX?
MT: I like the variety – from landscaping to building roads around the Carrara Stadium, and working with the other blokes.
AWX: What’s your most memorable moment while on the job?
MT: It was a job in Labrador – we got the job done way quicker than anticipated and the site supervisor took us out for steak. That was pretty good!
AWX: What do you hope to achieve while working at AWX?
MT: Hopefully land a permanent position, save enough money to do the things I wanna do, buy a unit, and have job security.
AWX: Do you feel that you’ve been given the opportunity to achieve what you want while working at AWX?
MT: Yes! Working for AWX may not be in the line (of work) I want to be in, in say the next 5 to 10 years but it’s allowing me to do what I want and eventually get to where I wanna go – like start my own business. But at the moment, I’m happy with the job flexibility – I have time to hit the surf, go for a bike ride, hang out with my mates…
AWX: Would you recommend AWX to your friends?
MT: Yeah! Already have!
AWX: What advice can you give to your mates who would like a job with AWX?
MT: Take your first job, show some initiative, and while you’re on the job – ask someone what to do, don’t stand around. Oh, and get your timesheet in on time if you wanna be paid on time!
