Thanks to a partnership between short and long term staffing solutions business, AWX and Beyond Billabong, eleven young previously unemployed men will commence work in January.
Together with Beyond Billabong, AWX’s First People™ program has successfully secured job placements for this group of newly skilled Indigenous All Stars from Brisbane.
These young Indigenous All Stars have embarked on a rigorous four week course with Beyond Billabong, which is designed to up-skill and prepare individuals for the workforce.
The Beyond Billabong course is funded by the Australian Government’s Indigenous employment program.
Upon graduating from the work ready program, the eleven All Stars will be prepared for the positions that currently await them with their new host employer.

The First People™ and Beyond Billabong program saw the All Stars coming together from communities in Brisbane to begin their training at Longreach where they participated in horsemanship skills training, leatherwork, Indigenous art and computer skills.
They also spent a week on the Sunshine Coast to participate in team building activities to nurture their personal development.

First People™ is committed to employing local people, partnering with industries to allocate suitable positions, and to tailor role and industry specific jobs for our Indigenous workforce.
Prior to this, the Indigenous All Stars were not work ready hence unemployed for a considerable period of time.
However through the First People™ program, relevant training and the opportunity presented by the host employer, the All Stars will now join the workforce, proving that it is possible to break the unemployment cycle that exists among the Indigenous community.
The First People™ program is an initiative of contract staffing specialists, AWX.

Through First People™, AWX is raising an All Stars workforce of empowered local Indigenous people who are work ready, and therefore closing the gap between industry and Indigenous communities.
