We are seeking for a Science Technician to join the Chemical Residue Laboratory Team within a State Government department. This team provides critical scientific support to the Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity Business Group.
This is an ongoing role based in Coopers Plains until June 2026, with the possibility of extension.
Key Responsibilities
As part of this role, you will:
- Work independently under direction to deliver analytical chemistry testing services.
- Apply chemical techniques for rapid and accurate quantification of insecticide residues in environmental samples.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.
- Prepare reagents and manage consumable resources.
- Clean work areas and equipment.
- Prepare, collect and manage samples while ensuring sample integrity.
- Perform tests, analyses and collect analytical data.
- Record and document data using defined systems.
- Undertake other moderately complex scientific technical activities as directed.
- Perform scientific tasks in accordance with SOPs, work instructions, and protocols to ensure valid data and compliance with requirements and Legislative obligations
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring timely and accurate information flow while maintaining confidentiality and privacy standards.
The Candidate
- Bachelor of Science (Chemistry preferred) or equivalent qualification/experience in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Experience working within a Laboratory Quality Management System.
- Experience using GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) is advantageous but not essential.
