We are looking for a plant pathologist for QLD state Government. This is a temporary full‑time position until March 2027, with the possibility of extension. The role will be based in Dutton Park.
This role will support plant disease diagnostics, research, and field activities. You will contribute to laboratory, glasshouse, and field research projects, including molecular diagnostics and plant health surveillance work.
Working as part of a collaborative scientific team, you will assist in delivering high‑quality research outcomes, support plant biosecurity programs, and help protect the state’s agricultural industries.
The Candidate
- A degree in Agricultural Science or Science from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent qualifications in a relevant field.
- Applicants with international qualifications must have their qualification assessed for comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework.
- Skills and experience in laboratory, glasshouse, and field research techniques relevant to plant pathology.
- Scientific expertise in molecular biology, including experience in molecular plant pathology and technical competence in developing and applying DNA‑based diagnostic methods.
- Willingness to work outside ordinary hours and travel to regional locations when required
- Must be comfortable working outdoors.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with proven ability to work effectively in a team, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
- A valid C‑class driver licence.
