We don't want to be that labour hire provider that just parachutes a body in and set and forget. And we want to be embedded in the client's business, have a good understanding of what the client really wants.

When I first started my apprenticeship, I didn’t know what to expect and had a lot of questions. AWX guided me the whole way and made the process much easier than I thought. The team explained everything clearly and were always happy to help. Now I’m close to finishing my course, getting paid while I learn and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out.

Trainee & apprenticeships FAQs

  • What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is paid work while you learn a trade. You’re on site, earning a wage, learning from people who’ve been doing it for years and working towards a proper qualification. You don’t sit around watching, you get stuck in.

  • What is a traineeship?

A traineeship is a paid role where you learn on the job while doing training at the same time. Paid traineeships are a good option if you’re chasing jobs with no experience and want a solid foot in the door.

  • What’s the difference between an apprenticeship and a traineeship?

The difference between an apprenticeship and a traineeship is pretty simple. Apprenticeships are trade based and usually run longer. Traineeships are often shorter and cover a wider range of entry level jobs.

  • Are apprenticeships and traineeships only for school leavers?

No. Apprenticeships and traineeships aren’t just for school leavers. AWX place people of all ages, including career changers and people returning to work, as long as you’re reliable and keen to learn.

  • Are traineeships paid?

Yes! Traineeships are paid. Paid traineeships mean you earn a wage from day one, plus super and leave. You’re not doing anyone a favour. You’re working.

  • How much do apprenticeships and traineeships pay?

Pay rates depend on the trade, the stage you’re at and the employer. Apprentices and trainees are paid while they learn, with wages increasing as you progress. AWX will be upfront about pay before you start.

  • How do I get an apprenticeship?

The easiest way to get an apprenticeship is through AWX. AWX work with employers who want apprentices. You apply, we have a chat and if you’re keen and reliable, we’ll help line something up.

  • Do I need experience to start an apprenticeship or traineeship?

No, you don’t always need experience to start an apprenticeship or traineeship. There are plenty of jobs with no experience out there. If you show up, listen and put the effort in, AWX can help you get a crack.

  • What apprenticeships and traineeships does AWX offer?

AWX recruits for electrical apprenticeships, heavy diesel mechanical apprenticeships, construction and civil trades, plus paid traineeships in food processing, manufacturing, landscaping and horticulture.

  • How long does an apprenticeship or traineeship take?

An apprenticeship usually takes three to four years, depending on the trade. A traineeship is often shorter and usually runs anywhere from 12 months to two years.

AWX recruits for a range of entry level mining opportunities and works with candidates who are keen to learn, turn up prepared and to work on site.

  • How old do you have to be to do an apprenticeship?

Most people can start an apprenticeship from age 16, depending on the role and employer. If you’re old enough to work and ready to have a go, it’s worth the chat with AWX.

  • What happens after I finish an apprenticeship or traineeship?

After you finish an apprenticeship or traineeship, you walk away with a qualification and real experience. From there, a lot of people move straight into full time work. That’s the whole point of it.

  • Is an apprenticeship or traineeship worth it?

Yes, an apprenticeship or traineeship with AWX is worth it if you want steady work, real skills and a job that goes somewhere. You earn while you learn and build something you can use.
