The roles
We are looking Field Surveillance Officers to join Eradication programs to undertake specialised field surveillance and treatment to eradicate harmful species from the Australian environment.
They’ll be exposed to tropical weather conditions as well as challenging terrain (slopes, steep gradients and dense vegetation) and a range of dangerous flora and fauna. If they’re up for the challenge, we’d like to hear from you.
What they’ll do
Below is a bit more info about some of the tasks they’ll do (but of course not limited to):
- Field-based surveillance, mapping, and treatment activities
- Safe use of a machete for some treatment work
- Collecting GPS data, recording, and correlating project information
- Working effectively in outdoor teams to maintain high standards and meet deadlines
- Operating and maintaining field equipment such as spray units, chainsaws, GPS, and other navigational tools
What they’ll need
Here’s a bit of a run down of some of the things they’ll need:
- A passion for hiking and the great outdoors
- Experience in intensive outdoor labouring or landscaping, including residential, bushland, and tropical rainforest field work
- Ability to work through varied and challenging environmental conditions for extended periods
- Strong focus on Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) - able to recognise, manage, and follow safety directions
- Current, valid Queensland open manual C (car) class driver’s licence
- Willingness and ability to pass drug and alcohol testing, physical functional assessments and obtain a National Police Check
- Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident - evidence of residency or visa status with work rights and any conditions/restrictions required prior to engagement
