About the Role
You will work as part of a dedicated field team conducting surveillance, mapping, treatment, and eradication activities in rainforest and remote environments.
Key responsibilities include:
• Conducting field surveillance and treatment in rainforest terrain
• Safely using tools such as machetes, spray units, chainsaws, and GPS equipment
• Walking long distances daily (up to ~15 km), including steep and challenging terrain
• Carrying equipment, food, and water for full-day field operations
• Collecting GPS data, samples, and project records
• Supporting team-based field operations, including safety and emergency responses
• Communicating with landholders, stakeholders, and program staff
• Working safely in tropical conditions and around wildlife and hazardous flora
As a Field Supervisor, you will:
- Supervise field teams to perform tasks and deliver project outcomes. Support staff well-being and positive group dynamics in challenging and remote environments in tropical weather conditions.
- Deliver training for the team to undertake assigned duties such as treatment and surveillance activities safely and efficiently.
- Follow and model workplace, health and safety procedures and practices.
- Work cooperatively in teams of outdoor workers, while working in challenging environments, to complete tasks to a high standard within project deadlines and solve problems quickly and effectively.
- Organise and coordinate specific operations in accordance with the programs.
- Communicate clearly and appropriately with managers, team members, landowners and members of the public and model effective communication practices. Lead and provide support to team members in managing difficult conversations with members of the public/landowners.
- Promote effective public relations by answering general questions from the public regarding your specific program/projects.
- Make safe and competent use of computers, tablets, mobile phones and satellite navigation (GPS) systems and other safety equipment as well as operational equipment including machetes, chainsaws, spray units, Side by Side (UTV), vehicles and other job-relevant equipment and substances.
- Adhere to and support team adherence to strict program protocols and timeframes, applicable spread prevention protocols and technical procedures.
- Work with a range of herbicides when conducting treatment activities and adhere to Departmental Workplace Health and Safety System requirements.
- Follow workplace, health and safety procedures and practices including daily safety reporting requirements, full attendance and participation in mandatory safe work procedures, training, toolbox talks, risk assessments, inductions, pre-starts, debriefs, and other safety reporting requirements.
Work Conditions
- Monday to Friday, early starts from 6am
- Hours may vary depending on weather conditions
- Wet-season work required
- Roles available year-round

About You:
You're practical, resilient, safety-focused, and comfortable working in demanding outdoor environments.
You must have:
- Experience in intensive outdoor or field-based work (bushland, rainforest, farming, labouring or similar)
- Strong physical endurance and ability to work in harsh weather and terrain
- A strong commitment to Workplace Health & Safety (WHS)
- A current open manual QLD C-Class licence and reliable transport
- Ability to pass Drug & Alcohol testing and a Physical Functional Assessment
- Ability to obtain and pass a National Police Check
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency (proof required)
Highly Desirable:
- First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Remote First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- ACDC (or willingness to obtain)
- Side by Side (UTV) (or willingness to obtain)
- Chainsaw (or willingness to obtain)
