An exciting opportunity is available for a Science Technician (Entomology) to support scientific diagnostic and biosecurity activities within a specialist entomology team.
This role is ideal for someone with a background in biological sciences, entomology, agriculture, zoology, or a related discipline who enjoys working with insect identification, laboratory processes, and scientific data.

Key Responsibilities
- Identify fruit fly specimens collected through surveillance programs, including distinguishing native species from exotic pest species.
- Register samples and accurately record results using specialised databases and computer applications.
- Report suspected exotic pest detections promptly and in accordance with established procedures.
- Work within a Laboratory Quality Management System (QMS), following standard operating procedures and quality requirements.
- Assist with maintaining and improving laboratory procedures, work instructions, and quality processes.
- Participate in proficiency testing and quality assurance activities.
- Perform laboratory-based scientific tasks with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Support the delivery of scientific diagnostic services through the generation of reliable, high-quality data.
- Relevant qualification in a science-related field (Degree, Diploma, Associate Diploma, or equivalent).
- Knowledge, skills, or experience in insect identification and entomology.
- Previous experience in a laboratory, research, environmental, agricultural, or biosecurity setting.
- Experience working within a Laboratory Quality Management System.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately follow procedures and protocols.
- Good computer literacy and experience using databases and Microsoft Office applications.
- Effective communication and organisational skills.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
