The Role

We are seeking multiple experienced Senior Management Accountant (AO6) to join a Queensland State Government department within the Strategic Investments and Enterprise Finance division.

This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and stakeholder management experience to contribute to high-level financial management activities within a complex government environment.

Contract until February 2027 with strong potential for extension. Brisbane CBD location.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide customer-focused financial management advice, analysis, and performance reporting.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and targets, identifying risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare monthly and ad-hoc financial reports, reconciliations, forecasts, briefing notes, presentations, and correspondence.
  • Support the development and review of financial management policies, procedures, and frameworks.
  • Maintain budget allocations and ensure accuracy within the budget management system.
  • Assist with the preparation of the State Budget, Service Delivery Statements, Annual Reports, Mid-Year Fiscal and Economic Reviews, Budget Submissions, Ministerial briefs, and Estimates Committee materials.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, Queensland Treasury, and external service providers.
  • Review and improve financial systems, processes, and reporting practices.
  • Contribute to a professional, collaborative, and continuous improvement-focused team culture.
  • Provide financial analysis and support for ad-hoc projects as required.
The Candidate 
  • Extensive experience in management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience preparing complex financial reports and providing strategic financial advice.
  • Ability to build effective stakeholder relationships across multiple levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working within large, complex organisations, ideally within government
Highly Desirable
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Current membership with:
    • CPA Australia, or
    • Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA ANZ), or
    • Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) – MIPA status
