About the Role
We are seeking a Technical Officer / Scientific Assistant to join a laboratory team supporting microbiological testing services for Queensland's food industry .
This role is ideal for someone with laboratory experience who enjoys working in a hands-on environment and contributing to important food safety outcomes .
Technical Officer What you'll do:
- Support microbiological testing services for food industries across Queensland
- Assist with laboratory testing, sample preparation, quality checks, and accurate recording of results
- Complete routine microbiological examinations and maintain detailed documentation
- Assist with laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration, cleaning, and general housekeeping
- Support sample management from arrival through to testing and reporting
- Maintain accurate records across electronic and hard copy systems
- Work within strict quality, safety, and accreditation requirements
Scientific Assistant What you'll do:
- Support laboratory operations through media preparation, waste handling, cleaning, and general laboratory tasks
- Assist the team with day-to-day laboratory activities while maintaining a strong focus on safety and accuracy
About You
We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. You'll enjoy working in a team environment and take pride in contributing to work that supports food safety and quality outcomes.
What you'll need:
- Diploma qualification in Science, Applied Science, or a related field (minimum), or a willingness to commence studies towards a Diploma-level qualification (Technical Officer)
- Food Microbiology experience (highly desirable)
- NATA accredited laboratory experience (highly desirable)
- Strong commitment to Workplace Health & Safety
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to follow procedures and maintain quality standards
- Current open manual QLD C-Class licence and reliable transport
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency (proof required)
